Parley Street. That's where Sheri and I live. On February 4th of 1846, Parley Street became the path of exodus for saints leaving Nauvoo. Beginning with some 1600 individuals, covered wagons and teams these people turned their faces west into the unknown. They left homes and dreams along with most of their belongings relying on their faith to move them forward.

Tonight, we had the opportunity to observe a beautiful dramatization based on real stories of those that left. Through story and song, we were allowed to ponder what it must have been like to give all for something that you believed in. Parents with small children - explaining why they were not going home to their warm beds. Instead they set out into a wilderness in the dead of winter. It betrays common sense, but they had little choice. Neighbors, the government and anyone with power to keep them safe turned a blind eye as they were driven from homes they had sacrificed to build. Forced out by fear from those that didn't like to see their rapid growth and industry. Driven out because of political differences.

Surely their history and accomplishments remain inspiring while their persecutors are long forgotten.

I hope that you can find an opportunity to come here and experience Nauvoo for yourself. These young performers - directed by Derek Furch, a high school friend capture the spirit of what took place many years ago.
