How it once was

In contrast to a previous post, today the temple went dark - for a moment. The heavy snow that had fallen must have weighed down power lines enough to break. In any case, the power went out. I was in the Baptistry of the Temple recording confirmations. For a moment, the only light appeared to be what was coming through the overcast sky laced with snowfall and through the window. For that instant, it dawned on me that this would have been the quality of light that the early saints in Nauvoo would have experienced in the temple. During the day, the large windows allowed enough illumination to work. For that brief moment, there was a connection to the past - an illustrated 'moment of reflection' on how it used to be. There was no electricity in the Nauvoo Temple in 1846. But there was light. "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light..." Isaiah 9:2
