Mary Ann Young moved into this home while Brigham was on a mission. Previously, the Youngs had live across the Mississippi River in Montrose in army barracks left behind during the war of 1812. At one point, Sister Young and her children had no food to eat while living in Montrose while Brigham was gone. She rowed across the turbulent Mississippi in freezing, wet wet weather. She acquired some scant provisions and then rowed freezing back across the river. Her strength was inspiring. The large room in the Young home was designated for council meetings when Brigham was the President of the Quorum of the 12. His portrait has been added, but was not a part of the original room. 2 primary things were topics of discussion; the completion of the temple and the trek that lay before them to the west.
