Today I had a chance to play golf with some Nauvoo friends. Kevin Eldredge, Hugh Pierce and Jim Strait. The combined average age of our foursome was 78! High is 92, Jim is 85, Kevin 66 and I'm 68.

Hugh was the first LDS mayor since Joseph Smith. He served from 1977-1981. He also worked on the Nauvoo Temple and the Ogden, Utah Temple. He's from Georgia originally. All he has to do is talk and you pick that up right away. We played 9 holes in Carthage, Illinois. It was 85ish and very humid. We had a great time with Jim Strait playing best overall. Jim used to play AAA fast-pitch softball and he just about acts like a teen-ager. He has got as much energy as anyone there - maybe more.

Kevin put the whole day together. He is originally from Roosevelt, Utah. All of us have the opportunity of serving in the Nauvoo Temple as Ordinance Workers. After the game, Hugh gave us a tour of his home. He served many years in the Army. The best things in life are the little things.
